Whether you are seeking treatment for astigmatism, nearsightedness, farsightedness, cataracts, or other vision-related issues, we make it our mission to meet those needs with top-quality professional eye care. We offer a broad range of services, including:
PRK, or ”Flapless” LASIK
PRK, or Photorefractive Keratectomy, has been in use for over fifteen years, and has a proven record of safety and effectiveness. PRK was the first method of laser corrective eye surgery to be approved by the FDA. This procedure is used to successfully treat cases of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
There are some important distinctions between PRK and conventional LASIK surgery. Unlike LASIK, PRK does not require the surgeon to create a flap of tissue before re-sculpting the cornea. Because of this, the procedure has come to be known as “Flapless” LASIK. Because this method does not require the creation of a corneal flap, it can be a good alternative for patients with thin corneas, or other conditions which may make conventional LASIK difficult to employ. In terms of vision improvement, PRK and LASIK offer equivalent long-term results.
PRK patients may also experience a bit more discomfort for the first 2-3 days after the procedure, when compared with LASIK patients. However, those seeking vision-correction treatment can rest assured that during the PRK procedure, the eye is numbed with anesthetic drops, making the procedure itself is a painless experience.
AST-Advanced Surface Treatment
AST (sometimes called “Epi-LASIK”) combines the best features of both LASIK and PRK. This procedure has been used to improve peoples’ vision since the year 2000. It was created by the same team that developed LASIK.
This procedure involves separating the surface layer of the cornea, known as the epithelium, from the rest of the cornea. The surface of the cornea is then re-shaped, which is typically the most important element in improving vision. After the re-shaping portion of the procedure, the corneal flap is replaced. The cornea is protected by a contact lens while the patient’s eye heals—a process which usually takes between four and seven days. After this, the contact lens is removed and discarded.
Intralase, or all-laser LASIK
Intralase is a 100% blade-free technique for permanently improving your vision. Many patients are comforted by the fact that with Intralase method, only lasers are used—meaning a blade never touches your eye.
With this method, lasers are employed to create the corneal flap. During the procedure, laser light is also used to create tiny bubbles in the corneal stroma. When these bubbles coalesce, a perfect flap forms. The precision of this method allows the surgeon to customize the flap to your eyes’ unique and specific measurements. With this method, the surgeons at LASIK Atlanta can create a flap which is perfectly fitted to your eye’s unique depth and shape.
While the Intralase method is newer than other LASIK methods, it has earned a reputation for both safety and effectiveness. Throughout the world, more than 1 million people have used the Intralase procedure to effectively improve their vision. This number continues to grow as people learn about the benefits of all-laser vision correction surgery.
